The Wallace Collection

The Riesener Project

This research project, initiated in 2015 by Jürgen Huber, senior furniture conservator at the Wallace Collection, involves studying the work of Jean-Henri Riesener on his manufacturing methods within his workshop, the materials used in his masterpieces and the evolution of his creations over the years.

With eleven pieces attributed to Riesener, the Wallace Collection has been joined by Waddesdon Manor and the Royal Collection Trust, which also hold a significant collection of Riesener's furniture, to share this corpus of study.

This project, which combines archival work with cutting-edge technologies (photogrammetry, X-rays, 3D modelling), aims to highlight new discoveries about the master's work through printed and digital publications.
